Multimedia history in the modern mass media genre system

In this article we examine the multimedia story as a new media text type in the web space, characterized as non-linear and narrative, as well as by communication of information both in verbal and nonverbal ways. We determine the corpus and the content of this term, its correlation with the scientific analogues, such as multimedia article, snowfall, multimedia (transmedia) storytelling, multimedia longread. Much attention is given to the status of the multimedia story in the traditional mass media genre system. Two basic principles of the multimedia story phenomenon are discussed: 1) as a new journalistic genre, 2) as a new format to present the media content.
