Rock graves in the North Caucasus are referred to a special group of medieval sites. Their studies have a long history. However, most issues related to their chronological and cultural attribution are still controversial. The paper analyzes a grave containing a mummified individual from the Dzhalan-Kol I rock cemetery examined by computer tomography with a view of reconstructing distinctive features of the funerary rite and bringing up an issue of what caused natural mummification.
