Russia's imperial past has led to the development of several historiographical strands, including the study of the interaction between the authorities and the Muslim population in the steppe regions of the state. The existence of a multi-faith society presupposes that all peoples inhabiting the country are treated with sensitivity. The imperial centre took this factor into account in connection with the need to keep the non-Christian peoples of Kazakhstan and Central Asia within the Russian State. At the present stage, despite the commonality of language, customs and culture, belonging to a single confessional system of Kazakhs and Tatars, interethnic relations between these nations are tense Negative inter-ethnic attitudes initially emerged when Tatar religious figures were sent to the Kyrgyz (Kazakh) steppes. Research attention to this issue is relevant, and the roots of mutual negative stereotypes should be sought in the ancient history of peoples. Such stereotypes contribute to the incitement of national hatred, which is why it is now necessary to overcome the prejudices that exist in society.
