The author acknowledges that that museological knowledge becomes topical in the context of modern programs for protecting a cultural heritage. He undertakes the examination of the scientific work in the ethnographic collections of the museums in Siberia. The author provides a valuable overview of the main courses of the museological studies, fulfilled by Omsk researchers: history museums in Siberia, history of Siberian scientific museum centers and institutions, museological theory, scientific basics of the museum work (scientific issuing passports, cataloguing, exhibition and others), museological education in university-level. The author concludes that long-term work in the ethnographic collections of the museums was resulted in series of publications called «The culture of people around the world in the ethnographical collections of the Russian museums». He concludes that the essential priority for the future development of the museological researches is the theoretical reorientation. It means to accept museology as a part of the cultural studies (not historical and not intersectoral discipline) which basic subjects are museums artifacts and museums processes.
