This article explores the specificities of presenting a piece of music as commodities within the framework of “culture of consumption” in the post-industrial era. The authors of the article focus on the issues of transforming the aesthetics of a musical work into a standard musical product of the modern art market, as well as considering the most significant musical “goods” of mass and elite musical culture presented to the domestic consumer: from jazz to opera. It is stated that the musical work of both mass and elite musical culture turns out to be a very popular “product” that is part of the line of satisfying the needs of a modern citizen: from relaxation and entertainment to spiritual and aesthetic. Definitely, the position put forward by the authors - a work as a commodity - is relevant, debatable and requires further research in the field of studying modern cultural and economic realities.
