The problem of studying the history of the All-Union Pioneer Organization (AUPO) named after V. I. Lenin, which for a long time (1922-1991) played an important role in educating the younger generation in the USSR, is of relevance, theoretical interest and practical value for modern Russian teachers in terms of a deeper study of the past of our country as a whole, and the pioneer organization, in particular, in order to restore historical justice to a number of prominent teachers of the past, finally, in the interests of using the experience accumulated by Soviet teachers of previous generations in organizing work with the younger generation today. In the Russian historical and pedagogical science in the last three decades, there have been no materials concerning the theory and practice of the work of the pioneer organization, its history and prospects for using the experience of its work in modern conditions. The purpose is to study the circumstances of the occurrence and characterization of the most important events in the history of the AUPO, to show the value content of its activities. Materials and methods - analysis of historical, pedagogical, methodological and fiction literature on the subject of research, biographical and historical methods, axiological approach in revealing the value content of the facts and phenomena characterized. Results. The article presents significant and, at the same time, little-known facts of the history of the All-Union Pioneer Organization named after V. I. Lenin. Examples from the history of the pioneer organization in Vyatka province (Kirov region) are given. Connection of the pioneer organization with scout organizations at an early stage of development is shown. The ideological orientation of the pioneer movement is characterized, the content of the main directions of its activity and its importance in the upbringing of the younger generation in the USSR are revealed. The achievements and positive aspects of the pioneer movement are revealed, as well as the reasons that led to its liquidation. Discussion . The given factual data show that the formation and development of the pioneer movement faced a number of problems, including bureaucracy and formalism, the introduction of a duplicate organization in the form of a student committee into the life of the school, etc. In conclusion is said that it′s necessary to use the experience of the All-Union Pioneer Organization named after V. I. Lenin in the work of existing children's educational organizations. The article was written in connection with the centennial anniversary of the organization.
