The main content of the study is an analysis of the category of activity based on the philosophical views of G. Hegel and his followers in our country. The idea of the objective impossibility of human activity that does not involve thinking as a generalizing, abstracting ability is substantiated. A critical attitude to practice-oriented university education using the pragmatic philosophy of American philosophers is presented. This view will be of interest to specialists in the field of pedagogy.
