N. M. Karamzin on friendship

In the sentimentalism culture friendship emerges as the highest form of human interaction. The theme of friendship runs throughout all the work of Karamzin and finds its way into different genres. Mankind was imagined by Karamzin as a fraternity of people who need one another and who form a single whole, a single world soul, with common suffering, with vices and virtues, and within it (as within the soul of each individual) the forces of good should triumph over the forces of evil.
