National peculiarities of functioning of paroemiological units in the modern British political discourse

The article deals with the analysis of the proverbs as the means of the manipulation of the audience. There is established the tradition of the use of the transformed proverbs in the functions of persuasion, focus, accusation, appeal, warning, confirmation and emotional pressure. The author emphasizes the tendency to the exclusion of the proverbs from the speech as the result of the processes of the globalization of the society.
