The Edict of Nantes, discussed in the article, became the most famous example of the legal recognition of confessional disunity and ended the religious war that exhausted the state. Despite the extensive discussion of this document, there is no translation of the full text of the Edict into Russian. The authors of the article have for the first time performed a complete translation of the text into Russian. In translation, "Religion Calling itself Reformatory" (Religion Pretendue Reformee) retains the abbreviation "R.P.R." since in modern historical literature, this Latin spelling is used when translating from French. In order to avoid confusion, proper names (geographical names and names of historical figures) are duplicated in French. The analysis of the French approach to resolving the religious question is relevant in the context of contemporary discussions on the limits of religious tolerance, the rights of religious minorities, and the role of the state in regulating interconfessional relations.
