The necessity of digitalization of forensic expert activity is substantiated. Forensic expert activity is distributed to the production of examinations and the participation of a specialist in the investigation. Digitalization provides the main directions of development of forensic expert practice: improvement of document management, which is achieved by expanding the capabilities of the automated workplace of an expert; creation and use of automated information retrieval systems; automation of expert experiments; development of expert records of disordered objects; strengthening the information security system; improving artificial intelligence systems; creating a generalized information base for expert and investigative-judicial activities; detecting, by means of forensic examinations, signs of crimes on the Internet; introducing robotics into forensic practice. The directions of digitalization of forensic expert activity are highlighted. Optimizing proposals have been formulated for them: 1) the involvement of special knowledge in the field of computer-technical expertise - for the effective removal of digital traces; 2) the involvement of third-party equipment in the absence of the necessary scientific and technical equipment in a forensic expert institution; 3) the validation procedure of one-time expert techniques is proposed to be carried out by conducting targeted studies in a forensic expert institution. Monitoring the progress and results of the application of such techniques should be carried out according to the “white box” principle; 4) expanding the list of competencies of forensic experts in the field of digitalization of forensic activities. The allocation of new expert specialties within the framework of computer-technical expertise seems promising; 5) it is recommended to interrogate the expert remotely, from the automated workplace of the expert. It is proposed to replace the expert’s interrogation by assigning him an additional examination; 6) improvement of software and technical support for digitalization of forensic activities. The problem of reliability of standard software and hardware supplied by foreign manufacturers is noted. It is proposed to organize domestic production of software complexes for forensic examinations. Digitalization contributes to increasing the evidentiary value of forensic examination, reducing the time of its production with high quality research.
