Directions for the health tourism development of the Republic of Tatarstan

The article is devoted to the current state and development prospects of health tourism through the example of Republic of Tatarstan. It is one of the largest, economically developed regions of Russia. At present, the desire of people to improve the quality of life is becoming increasingly important. Republic of Tatarstan demonstrates high indicators of the in medical and health tourism. According to forecast values, in 2022 tourism in this area will exceed the pre-pandemic level of 2019. The authors analyze the potential of the Republic of Tatarstan in this segment of tourism. Among the subjects of the Volga Federal District, the Republic of Tatarstan has a rare tourist and recreational potential and advantageous geographical position. The Republic is located in the eastern part of the East European Plain, where the largest rivers of Europe merge. Analysis of the data on the sanatorium complex of the Republic of Tatarstan shows that most of resorts of Tatarstan are climatic and do not require acclimatization and a long trip. Rest houses, health resorts, sanatoriums and boarding houses use forest air, mineral springs and therapeutic mud as therapeutic factors. At the same time, most of the sanatorium-resort complex of the Republic remains low-profit. Sanatoriums that are state-owned are still unprofitable. The problems associated with the system of state regulation of sanatorium treatment and recreation are identified. The prospects for the development of health tourism are proposed, namely the active participation of the state using the programtarget method and mechanisms of public private partnerships, improving the digital component of this tourism segment.
