Directions of development of the tourist potential of the region

The article reveals the features of the development of the tourism industry in Russia and promising areas for the use of tourism potential in the region. Various methods were used in the course of the study: generalization, comparison, systematic approach, graphic. It is noted that the rational use of territorial advantages, including the tourism industry, has a significant impact on the results of socio-economic development of the region. In the context of the pandemic and geopolitical tensions in the country, the demand for domestic tourism is increasing, and competition is growing between the regions of Russia for the flow of tourists and their investments in the economy of the territory. The tourism industry is characterized by an annual increase in the domestic tourist flow, an increase in the income of the tourism industry, an increase in the area of the number of rooms and the number of places in collective accommodation facilities. The assessment of the tourism potential of the Chuvash Republic showed that the region has a favorable economic and geographical position, significant natural and recreational and cultural and historical potential. Currently, the Chuvash Republic is a region with an insufficiently developed tourism industry, but it has promising areas in the field of agrotourism, ecological, health and wellness, children's, cruise and sports tourism.
