Narcissistic culture and transhumanism

The article examines the concept of “narcissistic culture”, its apologetic interpretations, and the recent criticism of the definition of this concept that has unfolded on the pages of the national scientific journal “Ideas and Ideals”. In addition to narcissistic culture, the main characteristics of another modern phenomenon are highlighted - transhumanism, which claims to dominate the world in the near future in all spheres of life. Currently, transhumanism is actively developing its own digital philosophy, forming the ideological basis of transhuman society, and trying to become active in the political international arena. The article presents some basic tenets of transhumanism that are significant in terms of the formation of a new type of society, where the transformation of contemporary post-secular culture (can be designated as “narcissistic culture”) continues. Taking into account the relevance and topicality of both phenomena, a comparative analysis of the features of narcissistic culture and transhumanism (the most universal for most trends of transhumanism) was carried out. Conclusion is drawn on the existence of points of contact between the modern type of man of narcissistic culture and projects of transhumanism; the latter can have fatal significance for the “mirror person”, subject to radical transformation and transition to a new state of transhuman and then posthuman.
