The Arctic zone of Russia is a geostrategic territory populated by 19 indigenous peoples of the North, which also determines its importance for Russia's socio-economic development. The article presents the results of a narrative analysis of qualitative interviews with representatives of the numerically small indigenous peoples of the North, residents of the Arctic zone of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). It has been revealed that the main measure of informants' well-being is wages, with only family respondents expressing satisfaction with its level. The interviews conducted during the survey led to the conclusion about the imbalance of supply and demand in the labour market of the republic on the occupational basis. Despite the intensive industrial development of the Arctic territory of the republic, all informants have traditional household management, the results of which allow them not only to provide their families with food, but also to earn additional income.
