The legacy of the revolution of 1917 in shaping national-state identity in modern Russia

The article examines the impact of the revolution of 1917 on the formation of national-state identity in the perspective representation of this event in public history, which includes media, public policy, government discourse, and mass consciousness. The author identifies the origins and causes of differences and disagreements concerning the assessment of the events of the revolution, its influence on the subsequent development of the Russian state and society. The article analyzes possibilities to overcome these differences, the tactics and strategy of symbolic politics of individual actors in the presentation of the events of the revolution, its consequences, and the impact of symbolic politics (politics of memory) on the formation of national-state identity.
