The results of research on inheritance of thousand-seed weight trait in interline sunflower hybrids

The research experiments on the inheritance of thousand-seed weight trait in interline sunflower hybrids on the CMS-basis were carried out in 2012-2014 in the fields of the central experimental base of FGBNU VNIIMK, Krasnodar. Two CMS-forms were used as maternal components (line VA 93 A with an average mass of thousand-seed weight of 36.2 g and a simple hybrid Kubansky 93 A with a higher index of this trait - 52.1 g). 10 fertile lines of various origins served as paternal components. They all have high and medium combining ability of studied trait. Pollination of maternal lines was carried out in 2012. Received hybrids in the quantity of 20 samples and their parental forms were studied on thousand-seed weight trait in 2013-2014. The results obtained during the research indicate that in the studied interline sunflower hybrids on the CMS-basis the inheritance of thousand-seed weight trait was controlled by the additive interaction of genes and dominance. In order to improve the characteristics of thousand-seed weight trait in studied breeding material it is advisable to use methods of periodic selection for GCA, convergent improvement and cumulative breeding.
