Inheritance of the duration of the vegetation period in chickpea hybrids under the conditions of the southern forest-steppe of Western Siberia

Chickpea is a promising leguminous crop for the region. However, the lack of adapted varieties with a shortened vegetation period inhibits its diffusion. The study of variability and genetic control of the duration of the vegetation period allows for a targeted selection and acceleration of the breeding process. The aim of the research was to determine the degree of phenotypic dominance and to study the nature of the inheritance of the duration of the vegetation period in chickpea hybrids. The experiments were conducted in the southern forest-steppe of the Omsk Region in 2016-2018. The study included 6 chickpea samples with a set of valuable traits and 8 hybrid combinations obtained on their basis. The prevalence of negative overdomination in the inheritance of the trait “duration of the vegetation period” in most hybrids has been established. Selection for the reduction of the vegetation period should be carried out in later generations of hybrids.
