Scientific and methodological ap-proaches to sustainable development and assessing the wine tourism objects in the Russian Federation

The purpose of the article is to analyze the current state of scientific and meth-odological support for sustainable development of Russian wine tourism. The work is fo-cused on approaches to assessment the wine tourism objects to create a database, iden-tify their tourism potential and further include them in wine tourism routes, tourism and recreational programs. The authors analyze scientific publications to determine scientific approaches to sustainable development of wine tourism and assessment of wine tourism objects, consider specific examples and trends in wine tourism development. As a result the author's methodology for assessing wine tourism objects in the Russian Federation was developed. The results of the study show that most of the works dedicated wine tourism are related to the definition of concepts, needs and motives for travel, econom-ics, geography of wine tourism, assessment of the synergistic effect of wine tourism de-velopment. In recent years, the attention of domestic and foreign studies has been directed to considering wine tourism in the context of sustainable development of terri-tories: sustainable socio-economic development (attracting local residents, the results of their economic activity, rational use of resources); sustainable natural development (preservation of natural landscapes, biodiversity, compliance with environmental stand-ards and anthropogenic loads, monitoring the state of the natural environment), sus-tainable socio-cultural development (preservation of the culture of wine and winemak-ing, consumption traditions, history of the territory). Sustainable tourism implies respon-sibility on the part of both wine producers and consumers, which is reflected in compli-ance with the principles of reasonable consumption. However, the issues of assessing wine tourism objects to form their database for further design of wine tourism routes and wine tourism terroirs remain without due scientific understanding. The authors pro-posed a methodology for assessing wineries as wine tourism objects. Based on the iden-tified trends in the development of wine tourism, the experience of wineries as wine tour-ism objects, 5 assessment blocks were developed, including 40 assessment indicators. The methodology is being tested at the leading winemaking enterprises of the Russian Federation. The proposed methodology for assessing wine tourism objects is the basis for the effective implementation of the Wine Routes of Russia project, the development of quality standards for wine tourism services.
