Scientific Reference Apparatus for the Documents of the Collection of the Chancellery of the Synod of the Russian State Historical Archive

The Russian State Historical Archive contains the collection of the Chancellery of the Synod, the documents of which are the largest source on the history of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Synodal period. It includes more than 300 thousand storage units. Scientific reference notes are an essential tool for working with these documents. They include printed inventories published before the revolution, handwritten delivery inventories, with their own complex systematization. An important role in the search for documents is played by reference alphabetic indexes (alphabets). In some instances, they make it possible to reconstruct the composition and content of lost files. The Russian State Historical Archive also has a catalog, inventories and other directories containing references to documents from the collection of the Chancellery of the Synod.
