The article is the result of a philosophical and methodological understanding of the problem of the scientific status of tourism research. The analysis of the discourse of modern foreign research on this issue has allowed us to reach the level of differences in methodological approaches to substantiating the status of scientific research on tourism. The bibliometric approach is typical for substantiating the multi-disciplinary status of scientific research on tourism. The thesis of the need for a unified autonomous science of tourism is supported by references to the content of tourism education. The epistemological approach is characteristic of a research position that denies the possibility of a single disciplinary status for the science of tourism. The use of a paradigmatic approach to clarify the status of tourism science has also not yielded positive results. A post-disciplinary approach has recently become widespread in tourism research. It is characterized by the authors as a postmodern reaction to the revolutionary changes of modern science. The main reason for the failures of solving the problem of the scientific status of tourism research in modern foreign literature is to ignore the specifics of tourism as an element of the global system of human development. Tourism, which is understood in this way, is an object of research in post-non-classical science. The authors concretize this approach by formulating some principles of the scientific picture of the world of tourism. They emphasize the need to avoid presenting the result of a study of such an object in the form of a "unified scientific theory". The final result of post-non-classical research will be presented as a "conceptual model". This model provides an overall picture that emerges as a result of historical reconstruction based on multidisciplinary research. The article presents the model for organization of scientific research of a destination, what is the example of such an approach.
