Insufficiency of uniformity as a problem of protection of well-known trademarks in private international law

The article deals with the problems of protecting the well-known trademarks, in particular, the lack of uniformity of legal regulation in this area. As a result of the analysis of international agreements, the author comes to the conclusion that the legislation of different countries proposes criteria differing from each other for recognizing a trademark as well- known for its further legal protection, which leads to the need to adopt international agreements. Offers directions for harmonization of private international law, the formation of a uniform approach to the effective protection of trademarks.
