Introduction. The experienced psychogenic events of childhood and adolescence are often the causes for the formation and development of mental disorders in adulthood. Material and Methods. The article presents data on 507 pupils of rural and urban secondary schools aged from 12 to 18 years. In the study Adolescent Mental Life Events Scale (ASLEC), Child Depression Inventory Scale by M. Kovac (CDI) are used. Results. 25% of adolescents in the study group assess the negative life events experienced by them as having high significance for the subsequent functioning in society. A high risk of depression is observed in 16.6% of respondents. Significantly more often depressive symptoms occur in girls compared to boys (23.9% and 8.8%). The correlation analysis reveals a weak relationship between the overall performance of these scales in boys and the relationship of the average degree - in girls. The role of the influence of negative life events on the occurrence of depressive symptoms in adolescents is discussed.
