«The unknown poet»: on the problem of V. Gippius' literary reputation

Some aspects of the poet V. Gippius' everyday behavior are viewed in the article. His writing strategy and peculiarities of the publishing policy are shown with the use of the example of his correspondence, critical articles and his contemporaries' evidence. Special attention is also paid to his evolution as a poet and to the way the main representatives of symbolism treated it (in the first place, Z.N. Gippius and V.Y. Bryusov).
