Some aspects of Ryukyu kingdom legal system from the XVIIth to the XIXth century

The article is devoted to the legal system and legal practice of the Ryukyu Kingdom in the period from the 17th to the 19th century focusing on the penalties for various types of crimes. Due to the fact that the kingdom was in vassal relations with Japan, the Ryukyu legal system, in general, was influenced by the legal practice and legal requirements of feudal Japan, however, the assignment of penalties for several types of offenses had its own features and was determined by the specifics of Ryukyu’s legislative traditions.
