Old Believers did a lot to preserve an orthodox iconography of the Old Russian tradition. While the Orthodox Church preferred the academic painting, Old Believers carefully preserved the old precepts and traditions of the icon painting. The study of creative works of the Old Believers' workshops prove that they play and important role in the Russian art history, they expand the idea of the New time iconography. The traditions of the coast-dwelling iconography school were realized in the later icons of the workshops of Nevyansk and workshops of other cities of the Ural. The iconography of Old Believers is subordinated to the dogmatic sense; it follows the canon as an image of the symbolical divinity.
