In this article we review methods of speech production study, give brief characteristics of two main modern western psycholinguistic models of speech production - discrete modular and interactive connectionist net model. Some issues of lexical access research within the framework of the theories are discussed, and also the questions of activation and lexical competition in the process of lexical access
