The article reveals little-known facts of the biographies of famous, but now almost forgotten German teachers and Pietist theologians of the second half of the XVII – first quarter of the XVIII centuries Philipp Jacob Spener and August Hermann Francke. Pietism is characterized as a theological trend that had a strong influence on the formation of the spiritual life of society and the development of education. The contribution of Spener and Francke to the development of the spiritual life of their modern society is shown. The pedagogical views and practical educational activities of A.G. Francke, who wrote valuable pedagogical works, became the first university teacher of pedagogy, opened a number of advanced schools, and the charitable «Francke Foundation» established by him exists to this day, are described in particular detail.
