German expressionism in the mirror of Russian germanistics

The article deals with the study of literary expressionism in Russia. In the 20th century, the first translations of the works of German and Austrian representatives of this literary direction appeared in Russia: F. Werfel, G. Kaiser, V. Hazenklever, L. Rubiner, L. Frank and others. By order of the people's Commissar of Education A. V. Lunacharsky published a collection of articles "Expressionism" in 1923, as well as a collection of plays by the most popular playwright-expressionism Georg Kaiser with an introductory article by Lunacharsky. At the same time, "the problem of expressionism is born, the solution of which is regulated by the ideological climate in our society in different periods. In the 20th expressionism is successfully studied. In the 30-50th, it is declared as an ideological hostile movement, and the research stops. The interest awakens only in the 60th.
