Inequalities and disproportions of social and economic development in the regions of the Far Eastern federal district

The variety of natural, social, economic and environmental conditions creates favorable preconditions for the territorial division and integration of labor and ensuring on this basis the economic growth and well-being of the country as a whole. At the same time, the territorial contrasts observed today in the level of development of the subjects of Russia necessitate the identification of regional differences in key social and economic parameters. Studies of regional disproportions and inequality make it possible to trace the dynamics of regional growth and are of certain importance for finding opportunities for alignment of territories and convergence of regions in terms of development and determination of competitive advantages. Thus, there is presented analysis of the level of interregional differentiation of the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District on the basis of statistical data from the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation. They note the key reasons for the interregional differences in the spatial development of the district's regions and the highlighted insufficient efficiency of state policy to smooth out interregional imbalances. The author considers the possible directions for improving the state policy to smooth out regional imbalances.
