Leaving behind a rich literary heritage, St. Nestor the Chronicler practically did not leave any information about himself that could shed light on his life and work. Despite the fact that historiography has repeatedly attempted to reconstruct the biography of the monk, a significant part of the questions related to his activities and life in the monastery have not been answered. Within the framework of the presented article, an attempt was made to answer the question of what place the Monk Nestor occupied in the hierarchy of the Kyiv Caves Monastery. Taking into account the special nature of the Nestor’s works and the involvement of the scribe in the monastery management system, it is logical to assume that the main place of obedience of the famous chronicler was the library of the monastery. It was access to the archive of the monastery and the books stored in it that allowed the Monk Nestor to create works, outstanding in their content, on the history of the princely family and the created St. Theodosius of the monastic community.
