St Nicholas church of Kovda village: on the problem of unexplored facts from the history of wooden architecture of the Russian North

The analysis of a number of documents reflecting the history of one of the oldest monuments of wooden architecture in the Russian North - the St. Nicholas Church, located in the village of Kovda. A number of previously unknown facts about the history of this church have been revealed. According to various sources, a clear contradiction is found in the dating of the construction of the church, the range of dates varies from 1597 to 1880-ies. The analysis of the documents made it possible to reveal the peculiarities of the relationship between the religious community of the St. Nicholas Church and local authorities during the most tense periods of church-state relations. In studying the history of St. Nicholas Church in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods, great attention is paid to the preservation of both the architectural ensemble and the artifacts of the interior decoration.
