The article presents the results of a study on the development of Scottish units in the service of the Stuarts. During the Restoration, a regular army emerged in England. Contingents from Scotland became an integral part of the British Royal army. Until 1707, the Scottish Army existed institutionally independently of the English army. The author traces the development of Scottish units in the service of the Stuart dynasty. The Scottish units were represented by guards and an army «garrison» and were led by representatives of the nobility. The role and place of the Scottish units are examined against the backdrop of the development of the regular army of Great Britain in the era of the Wars in lace and the beginning of the confrontation with France.
