Reconstructive vascular surgeries are the main treatment method for obliterating atherosclerosis of the lower extremities. However, when the distal arteries of the lower extremities are affected, it is not always possible to restore arterial blood flow for a number of reasons. One of the alternative ways to address the problem is to use low-intensity laser radiation to enhance collateral circulation and stimulate neoangiogenesis. Low-intensity laser radiation with a wavelength of 0.63 pm and a power of 1 mW was found to be effective in restoring collateral blood flow in patients with obliterating atherosclerosis of the lower extremities. Patients demonstrate no movement restrictions and no trophic changes; they tolerate long physical activity, demonstrate increased distance of pain-free walking without stopping, and increased ankle-brachial index.
