European normative power and militarization of the EU: discussions in European Academic Community

The European Union has unique experience of overcoming power politics and developing normative model of behavior. However, intensification of military integration in the EU in the late 1990s influenced normative image of the EU and caused mixed reactions in European academic circles. In the present article an attempt is undertaken to overview opinions developed in the community of European experts on the problem of compatibility of normativity and hard power instruments.
