Legal regulation of cryptocurrencies (Russian and foreign legislation)

The purpose of the paper is a comprehensive analysis of the current Russian and foreign legislation regulating the use of cryptocurrency in civil circulation. The relevance of the chosen topic is primarily due to the fact that today payment transactions using cryptocurrencies are recognized as one of the most promising areas for development of digital law in the world. At the same time, there is no single legal regulation that determines the status of cryptocurrencies. The subject of the study is the public relations that are developing regarding the legal regulation of cryptocurrencies. The following research methods are applied: formal-logical, comparative-legal, and formal-legal. The research results are the identification and detailed description of the features of the regulation of the cryptocurrency institution in Russia and foreign countries. It is concluded that there are no universal approaches to the legal regulation of the use of cryptocurrencies today. In addition, the author believes that the legal regulation of the status of cryptocurrencies in Russia is only at the initial stage of development, since many key issues have not yet been resolved.
