The article deals with the language variability in philosophy and the connected with this variability perception of the problem of human consciousness in the context of the city as a phenomenon of philosophical reflection. We have analyzed the characteristics of two types of philosophical tradition - metaphysics and existential phenomenology and revealed the differences between the two languages of philosophy based on their fundamental features. The basic language for metaphysics is logical-categorical and for existential phenomenology - existential one. This difference in languages influences the subject of philosophy: metaphysics defines the city as a context of human existence in space, time, ergonomics and design categories; existential-phenomenological approach to the problem of human consciousness within the city is based on nostalgia existential, which has two dimensions - temporality and spatiality. Our research has shown that existential approach to the problem of human consciousness within the city is insufficiently developed in modern philosophy, although it is very prospective.
