Notary translation in the light of legal translation: historical context and contemporary challenges

The paper attempts to discuss specific features of the notary translation as compared with the legal translation. The author provides a brief historical context of legal and notary translation development in Russia and pinpoints key dissimilarities between theoretical and practical approaches to the notary translation in various countries given the status of legal translators in those countries.
