New attribution of the archaeological find from the State Historical Museum collection

The paper provides description of a leather item found in the horizons of the16th-18th centuries in the course of archaeological surveys during the first stage constructionof the Moscow Metro. The author of the paper proposes that this find be attributed as ahorse boot. In Russia this device used in Western European countries as a therapy forhorses in pain and to mow the lawns by horse traction could be used by veterinaries (horsedoctors) as well as thieves who specialized in horse theft.
