A New Category of Oriental Items in the Sarmatian Sites of the 2nd–1st Centuries BC

Бесплатный доступ

The paper describes a rare type of bronze buckles with a fixed prong and a bipartite frame made up of two rectangles. Until now such items have never been covered by a special study and have been examined in publications and classifications together with early Sarmatian figure 8 buckles of a round form. However, this type of buckles can be referred to ‘canonical' early Sarmatian buckles shaped as figure 8 only provisionally as they have consistently similar design characteristics and distinctive decoration. The geography of the finds also points clearly to their different genesis not associated with the early Sarmatian figure 8 buckles suggesting their Oriental origin.
