New social care model of “Wellness” for the elderly, implemented in the context of China's ageing society

As the population ages, the demand for elderly care services is growing, the number of relevant institutions and the scope of their activities expands. This circumstance led to the adoption of the national strategy “Healthy China” in the Middle Kingdom. A new way of providing care for the elderly has been developed - the “Wellness” model, which is fundamentally different from the traditional form of providing medical care at the place of residence and caring for the elderly. At this stage, the model is still under initial development and has many drawbacks. In order to optimize social assistance to the elderly, it is also necessary to solve the problems of public health education, employee scarcity, financing of social projects of this kind and an adequate assessment of their effectiveness.
