In 2015 excavations in Pereyaslavl Ryazansky (now Ryazan) yielded a rarefind from the layers dating to the second half of the 12th - early 14th centuries. It is a raisedborder of a glass beaker shaped as a drinking glass and decorated with golden figures ofsmall fish encircled with a red line. The researchers believe that the beaker was importedfrom the Near East, probably, Syria. Such figures of small fish serve as a dating attributeof the second half of the 13th-14th centurys. Fragments of beaker decorated with figures offish had been found in Pereyaslavl Ryazansky before. Interestingly, this item indicatinga high status of its owner was found in 2015 on the periphery of the future capital of theRyazan Principality.
