The latest publications on information society in some Russian philosophical journals

The philosophical concept of information or post-industrial society is considered to be one of the most promising models of modern civilization. At the present time information society and its theoretical study are in the early stage. Therefore, this trend of social philosophy is not even positioned consciously by some authors as a particular study of this latest period of social development. In Russian philosophical journals, however, a considerable content of observations and conclusions about the nature of information society as well as scientific approaches to its description have been accumulated gradually. There exist some attempts to give an ontological characteristic of virtual reality as a special phenomenon of information society, reveal the nature of computer labor and trace its influence on the entire social system. The studies of more complicated interaction between matter and consciousness in information age are based on the old traditions of the Russian scientific thought both at the individual and social consciousness levels. As a result, conditions for the formulation of a holistic philosophical theory of information (post-industrial) society based on the principles of the materialist conception of history are created.
