At present, the imperial theme has regained relevance and there is a need to carry out a philosophical analysis regarding this phenomenon. Imperial ideology, as well as the essence of imperialism, has been researched, and it makes sense to consider these phenomena through the opposition of the concepts of archaic and modern. The author sets two goals: firstly, to identify the essential features of modern imperialism; secondly, to consider the attitude of the Russian population to the strengthening of the so-called imperial features in the directions of domestic and foreign policy of the Russian state. The author reveals the socio-cultural features of the Russian civilization based on the cult of military power and state greatness. Society, which formed under the influence of paternalistic ethics, supports the state. Russian imperial tradition is significantly different from Western imperialism, which sought expansion, colonization and exploitation of regions and peoples of non-Western origin; the Russian state military-political project is based on the protection of Russian culture, language, and religious values from the influence of Western expansion.
