In the article the problems of efficient family placement of children without parental care are considered. The foster family due to the specific features and functioning possesses a number of advantages over the internment of orphans. Foster care experience formed in Russia demonstrates the necessity of specialized training for professional substitute parents. Candidates to become adoptive parents should undergo specialized training and acquire the skills of social pedagogical and psychological support of orphans.
