Arterial hypertension (AH) is a condition in which systolic blood pressure is 140 mm Hg. and more and / or diastolic blood pressure of 90 mm Hg and more provided that these values are obtained as a result of at least three measurements taken at different times in a calm environment, and the patient on this day did not take drugs that change blood pressure. AH affects 30-40% of the adult population. With age, the prevalence increases and reaches 60-70% in people over 65, and in old age, isolated systolic hypertension is more common, which is less than 5% of the population under the age of 50 years. Until the age of 50, hypertension is more common in men, and after 50 years in women. Among all forms of hypertension, mild and moderate account for about 70-80%, in other cases, pronounced hypertension is observed. Secondary hypertension accounts for 5-10% of all cases of hypertension. However, according to specialized clinics where patients with high and persistent hypertension are concentrated, secondary hypertension can be detected in 30-35% of cases using complex and expensive research methods.
