By reacting equimolar amounts of triphenylbismuth dichloride and dinitrate with pentaphenylbismuth in benzene, tetraphenylbismuthonium chloride and nitrate were synthesized, which in reaction with mesitylenesulfonic acid form tetraphenylbismuthonium mesitylenesulfonate with a yield of up to 73 %.
