Notes on two cotoneaster species (Cotoneaster medik., Rosaceae) in Buryatia: distribution and status

The article provides information on new records of Cotoneaster mongolicus species at the boundary area of its distribution (1 location, Barguzinsky District) and C. neopopovii Red Book species (4 locations, Mukhorshibir, Dzhida and Zakamensk districts). We have emphasized the northernmost location of C. mongolicus and its significant remoteness from the bulk of the range. Based on the new records of C. neopopovii in the Tugnuy and Dzhida River catchments along with the data on occurrences in Khentey-Chikoy Upland, we should treat this species as endemic not only to Baikal Siberia, but also to Northern Mongolia. According to the newly appeared data, C. neopopovii can be recommended for exclusion from the Red Book of the Republic of Buryatia.
