The increasing burden on customs authorities in the context of sanctions pressure from the West, the need to find new trade and economic partners and the development of existing relations in foreign trade raises the issue of the quality of customs activities. The article substantiates the idea of the need to improve the quality of customs activities based on the principles of the "state for people". The basis for this is a system of criteria for evaluating the work of customs authorities. It is shown that the existing criteria do not always adequately reflect the results of the work, and the multifactorial nature of the external environment only aggravates the situation. The conclusion is consistently drawn about the need to improve the mechanisms of customs administration based on the principles of client-centricity.
