The article analyzes the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, also known as the Earth Summit, which was held in Rio de Janeiro from June 3 to June 14, 1992 and the international climate forums in Johannesburg (2002) and Rio de Janeiro (2012) that followed it with a period of 10 years. The author specifically notes that several important environmental agreements were concluded during these conferences, in addition to the opening for signature of two multilateral treaties: the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity. The main topic of the meetings was a discussion on sustainable development and ways to reverse the process of environmental degradation.
